Jocelyn G - Making Dough

"The great thing about studying with ACOFE is that you can repeat the courses as often as you like. I might choose to attend a weekend course just as a refresher but come away having learnt something completely new" Housewife Jocelyn Green puts bread on the table in more ways than one reports Dominic Osborne.

When I think of stock market trading, I envisage pinstripe suits, platinum credit cards and precarious power plays, but 48 years old Jocelyn Green proves otherwise.

She may well prefer the pyjama option over pinstripe, birthday cards over credit cards and playing soccer with her eight year old son over power plays, but this housewife and mother of three has produced profit margins that any trader would be proud of.

Managing the books for her husband's business, on top of her role as mother, left Jocelyn little time to consider a career of her own. That is until their financial advisor pointed them in the direction of ACOFE three years ago.

"Phil had been our financial advisor for a while before establishing ACOFE" says Jocelyn. "He suggested I study share trading with him as a means to supplement our income and secure our financial future. Being a house wife meant I had the bonus of being able to watch the market throughout the day and from the comfort of my own home."

Attending the user-friendly courses run by ACOFE once a fortnight, Jocelyn established a goal of live trading within 12 months so as to claim her study fees back on tax.

"Having not studied since grade 12, I was a bit worried about how I would cope. At first there was an awful lot of information to take in, but by practicing the principles ACOFE taught me, I went from starting my study in July to live trading the following April."

"Some of the associated vocabulary went right over my head to begin with but as you continue your study, it soon becomes second nature. The great thing about studying with ACOFE is that you can repeat the courses as often as you like. I might choose to attend a weekend course just as a refresher but come away with something completely new" Jocelyn says.

Curios about what is achievable from this type of investing, I quizzed Jocelyn about her most memorable gains and losses over the past couple of years.

"My worst loss was $1500. I was at a cinema with my kids when a movement in the market occurred. I made a mistake and have to put it down to experience I suppose. On the other hand, I once gained $2000 in just three days, so it goes to show how the volatile the market can be."

Jocelyn chooses to trade daily, studying daily charts and adopting an aggressive style at what she does.

"It's down to the individual how they trade, I love the excitement of being involved every day. You really have to be interested in making money in the long term and stick to a trading plan" she suggests.

"I trade online with a company called COMSEC (Commonwealth Securities) and because I do so much daily trading they have upgraded me to a professional trader status. Hopefully we can retire from this."

For Jocelyn, the financial future looks bright and should you stumble across a pyjama wearing lady at the cinema cradling a computer, don't be afraid to ask for some trading tips.
