"It is fairly straight forward to learn and the method of it's lessons is unique and you always pick up something new each time you go"
Day in day out Rodney Peachey exercises his body. Now with a little education of the mind, not only are his muscles growing but his bank account too. For the past 42 years Rodney Peachey has been an earth mover. Working on canals and golf courses anywhere from the Gold Coast to Caloundra, the hands-on physical labour of earth moving has kept his body fit and healthy. Happy yet not satisfied, 24 months ago Rodney decided it was time to exercise his mind. It was time to plan for his family's future. He had provided a home for his family for more than four decades but with his ageing body juxtaposed with the hardship of his occupation a different source of revenue was needed. "My day starts at about 6am and finishes at 6pm at night" Rodney,57, explains. "I wanted to have something to keep my mind active and I wanted to knock off the hard work because once I get a little bit older I don't want to be doing the hard work all the time." Rodney, thus, became interested in investing his own money in his own way. He did not wish to give it to others who would, potentially, lose money for him or at the very least take commission from his earnings. Rodney started looking to invest in an education for his financial future.
"I wanted to do my own investments rather than pay other people commission to do the same thing" he says. "I went along to an Australian College of Financial Education (ACOFE) introductory night and was very interested in what they had to say."
Since that introductory night two years ago Rodney has learnt numerous financial tips. He understands how the stock market works. He can trade, buy and sell from his own home, day and night. Phrases and terms such as "charting basic and option trading and volatile markets" are no longer foreign to Rodney's vernacular. "I am quiet comfortable with share trading now" he says. ‚"I trade from home or at work: I keep a watch on the market during my working hours. "So has it been successful for the earth-mover-come-day-trader? ‚ÄúI have been more than happy with the results I have achieved" Rodney says. "I have had all wins actually. ACOFE never made out that I would have 100 per cent wins: it's all about minimizing your losses, and I have managed to do that." Boasting a diverse range of stocks, Rodney has not always invested with the major blue chip recommendations , but has taken the knowledge gained from the ACOFE courses and applied them to his earnings and financial goals of short, medium and long term returns.
"Some of my stocks have been higher risk but they have also had higher return" he says. In addition to monetary benefits Rodney has earned, he was (and is) impressed with the user-friendly style of education offered by ACOFE. "It is fairly straight forward to learn and the method of their lessons is unique and you always pick up something new each time you go." For Rodney his financial future may be getting brighter by the day but his education is never ending. "I am more comfortable that I can make a living off trading but it is a never ending learning curve. I have not gone for six months, I have been too busy, but I am about to start attending again. I want to go brush up on a few techniques and learn a few more too."
