Peter,
For Market Analyst, how do you place the ATR on the chart itself, i know how to bring up the ATR and it come in a window of its own (just like any other indicator) but i remember seeing you drag it on to where the price action is and it gives you your level of stop automatically? Rob demonstrated it for IC and was wandering how you do it for MA?
Also in the "multiples" box of the settings for ATR... is that for multiplying the ATR? Could you kindly share what sort of multiple you use for trailing stop losses on the top 200 asx companies? I'm just about to do some chronic backtesting (again) to get my exit criteria as best as they can be and would appreciate any tips you have on exit criteria as well.
If anyone else uses ATR.. what sort of multiple do you use for trailing SLs.. 2x or 3x?
Your help is greatly appreciated... Cheers,
Deon

Hi Deon,
The ATR trailing stop in MA has an incorrect calculation in it and as such should not be used to calculate the stop.
This problem has been reported to MA adn is in the process of being rectified currently
Your assumption on the multiples box is correct, however this is also connected to the trailing stop indictor and has an incorrect calculation in it so the calulations need to be made manually.
These problems should be recified in the next upgrade.
Have a great day

Peter,
Is it to do with the multiples function not working properly - as when i increase the multiple nothing seems to change...
just so i know when its all fixed, how do you place the ATR line on the chart itself so it gives the trailing SL - or is that the problem atm?
Cheers
Deon ... the keen to fix up his exits !

Hi Deon,
Yes, it is the multiples function, and an example of this is as follows:
I was looking at a share and dropped the ATR onto it I got a value of $1.50 for the ATR. Then when I changed the multiple to 3xATR, I got a value of around $2.50, when it clearly should be $4.50, so there is a problem there which needs addressing.
I found this to be the case with both ATR and ATR Trailing Stop.
Also, you are limited to .5 gaps as you can only get a multipe of ATR for 1, 1.5, 2. 2.5, 3, 3.5 etc, the multiples are not user definable so that you could use 2.8, 3.2 etc..
The ATR stop is under the Guppy tools section
Regards
Peter
